Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009 (video)

Ant and Dec (only larger)!

Andy and Ben Roberts

A duo, a twosome...

Viewers of Saturday’s BGT saw Simon Cowell tell Ben and Andy Roberts from Doncaster that they had "What Piers will always strive for – the likeability factor".

But what you didn’t see was the duo – comprising uncle Andy and nephew Ben – raising the roof at the Birmingham auditions.

Their cheeky version of the old-time classic Me And Me Shadow had the crowd on their feet. The pair delighted in the audience feedback – and when Simon asked if it was the best day of their lives both men grinned back, “Yes”.

It’s all a far cry for the day jobs – where Andy and Ben work together, as used car salesmen.

Says Andy, “We both sell cars for a living, and obviously the car industry is a bit quiet at the minute. We have a lot of time to rehearse during office hours”.

“Everybody that works at our place has seen our act,” agrees Ben. “Sometimes we get funny looks from people in the car lot, who look in the big windows and see us rehearsing”.

He continues, “If there is a promotional weekend on for the public with a disco – well – we usually get up on the microphones and sing at that”.

The twosome, who Simon likened to Ant and Dec, (“Maybe a larger version” – grins Ben) hope that their six month old singing partnership can bring good things in the future.

Ben says, “I love the applause. The feeling you get when people are clapping a cheering is something you can’t get anywhere else. This is the third time I have had it and I want more”!

Until the big time kicks in, there are other ways singing can set them on the road to success.

Says Andy, “With the garage, maybe we should sing on the side of the road. Get the customers in”!
